The results for the British Medical Journal poll are in.
To kick off the new year the British Medical Journal conducted an online poll. From a list of 15 possible choices, readers cast their ballots for which on the list they thought was the most important medical advance since 1840. The top three, as voted by readers were:
#1 - Santitation with 1795 votes (15.8%)
#2 - Antibiotics with 1642 votes (14.5%)
#3 - Anaesthesia with 1574 ( 13.9%)
The computer, one of the innovations listed on the poll, came in tenth with just 405 nods (3.6%) out of the 11341 votes cast. So much for the power of ehealth.
The Journal used the results of this poll to launch their newly redesigned BJM.com website.
