When it officially opens its doors on September 27, 2006, the new Alberta Children’s Hospital will offer state-of-the-art healthcare services to children of all ages throughout Southern Alberta.

The new hospital, which cost $253 million to construct, will include such features as:

·         Operating rooms with ability to:

o        accommodate interoperative MRI capabilities, and

o        handle minimally invasive SMART technology

·         Dedicated telehealth/teleconferencing room

·         Human Simulator room for hands-on, real time training for internal and external staff

·         Full digital image reading to allow remote conferencing and faster electronic access to images in OR’s and other critical care clinical areas.

From outdoor healing gardens and play spaces to a larger Emergency department and in-room patient sleeping accommodation, the new hospital will provide a warm and child-friendly environment and will accommodate the growing population it serves. The vision was to build a world-class paediatric health care facility, combining state-of-the-art technology with family-centred care, research and education.  From all accounts, this new facility has hit every target.
